From the Egosoft site

Egosoft is pleased to announce X3: Albion Prelude, which provides a welcome bridge from the X Universe we know and love to the X Universe that will be experienced in X Rebirth. This new adventure will also feature more than 30 new ships and stations. A new Stock Exchange feature will enable players to speculate in local markets in a bid to increase their wealth. With this will also come tools to monitor and analyse economic developments and progress. Users with high-end machines will also benefit from some improved graphical quality settings. It is important to note that X3: Albion Prelude will NOT feature savegame compatibility with X3: Terran Conflict.

From the Egosoft site.

In the distant future, the X universe faces a period of profound and irrevocable change. While the universe stumbles towards an uncertain future, countless adventures await as new enemies rise in search of power.

Enter a young adventurer and his unlikely female ally traveling in an old, battered ship with a glorious past - two people alone against the galaxy, playing a key part in the events to come.

The fate of the universe rests in the hands of the player...

X Rebirth represents a spectacular new beginning for the X series, offering loyal fans and newcomers alike a vast, vivid and extremely detailed universe to explore throughout the game.

Varied gameplay elements such as action-packed space combat, detailed trading mechanics and high-speed space exploration with fast travel allow players to experience a truly unique space saga that will keep them hooked for dozens of hours.

X Rebirth features a whole new user experience - it is easier than ever to start with, and remains as deep as fans expect it.

I forgot to add this game here too, while early, it's worth a look if you liked the original frontier elite, which the game is based upon

Pioneer

http://pioneerspacesim.net/

I followed it for a while, the game is currently at alpha 18, with a new alpha release every 2nd friday of each month, (one release per month), its free, (SP) and the team do have a lot planned, although the game is still in the early stages. The main focus is to explore the galaxy, there is some trading, but there aren't many populated systems, at least the last time I looked, which is a while now, I should try and get back into it

It also uses the Lua scripting language, so its possible to add your own scripts to it, and one of the people that hosted the official X3 guide / website, Brianetta, is also helping out there.

Last time I checked its still has a long way to go, but as time goes on, it should be an awesome game to play, I would only pick it up now if you want to help the devs out, as you can download the source code from git and compile from source, (not that hard as all three versions (max, unix and windows) are maintained and updated,

I need to take another look at this sometime, but just a heads up in for others to look at it too.

I was browsing the Space Pirate and zombie forum on steam, (oh yes, SPAZ for short, is another great indie game, and has the voice of Totalbiscuit as the narrator, and well worth getting, and there will be a free DLC made available for it in the near future.

Anyway, if you like 4x games, you might be interested in StarDrive,  link to the kickstarter page

http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/1319847883/stardrive-a-4x-action-strategy-game-for-the-pc

for those that might be unaware of what Kiclstarter is, its a way for people to get a project off the ground, and depending on your donation level, you may be eligible for different rewards, for example for StarDrive, if you pay $10 you get the game on release, (release date is June 2012) or if you pay $25 you will have access to StarDrive's closed beta, there are quite a few projects, not sure if many or any or fraud projects, or if there are kicks in place to prevent that?

but anyway, for StarDrive, it will be like Master of Orion 2, as you start off populating a planet, and there will be a few resources, pop size, (determines how fast stuff is built,  food level, determines how fast the population grows or shrinks (if the population is starving) and minerals, so you can build stuff

you can customise ship loadouts, and the AI can steal some of your designs, another thing is, its one guy doing the programming, and another doing the art work, as the project has reached its required target and well above that, (still 10 days to go before the donations ends) and already raised $13,356 ($7,500 goal)

Im going to be a backer, haven't yet, but soon I will be, as this game might be good, I do like supporting indie games, as I lost interest supporting many big budget titles, publisher held games are losing their way, and this year been a complete disappointment  all around really for PC gaming, hopefully next year will be different, with a few indie titles coming, including this one,

so yeah, just a heads up in you like 4X strategy games, and like Master of Orion which this game will be based from, then the main dev has stated his next game will be based off Escape Velocity, so if this becomes successful, then we may see more games from him.
